| Failure to comply with these rules and guidelines may result in disqualification. |

| Entries are accepted by invitation only. |
| |
| Each invited church may submit 1 recording of an inspirational gospel song from any style category, including Traditional, Contemporary, Youth, and Urban/Hip Hop. |
| |
| Participating churches must be within 30 miles of the city center of a 2008 Be Sickle Smart participating city. Those cities are Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Chicago, IL; Philadelphia, PA; Jacksonville, FL; Los Angeles, CA; St. Louis, MO. |
| |
| Neither contest participants nor their family members (such as siblings, spouses, and/or children) may have any affiliation with Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporations or its agencies or vendors. |

Submission Guidelines |
| Important: |
| All song submissions, including both music and lyrics, must be original or non-copyrighted and in the public domain. |
| |
| Songs must be under 5 minutes long. |
| |
| Recordings must be of professional quality. Production quality deemed substandard by Novartis or its appointed judges may disqualify the entry. |
| |
| All submissions must include: |
- A professional-quality recording, on CD, of the song entry.
- A printed or typed transcript of the lyrics. Please include the name of the song and music composer(s).
- A signed and completed Submission Form for the song entry, inclusive of a church contact name, telephone number (required), and e-mail address (requested).

| All submissions, submission forms, and accompanying materials become the property of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and will not be returned to entrants. |

Evaluation Process and Criteria |
| Submissions will be judged on: |
- Arrangement/artistic presentation
- Vocal quality
- Ability to inspire

| Entries will be screened by a panel that will select 42 final entries — six from each of the 7 2008 Be Sickle Smart participating cities. |
| |
| The 42 final entries will be loaded onto www.AskAboutIron.com/Music, where anyone can vote for their favorites. Online voting will determine one-third of the final score for each submission. The votes of music ministers will determine another third of the score. The votes of a panel of music industry professionals will comprise the remaining third of the total score. Any given entry may be disqualified if the integrity of the online voting process comes into question. |

| The top 14 entries — 2 from each of the participating cities — will be featured on the compilation CD. A $2,000 cash prize will be awarded to each of the 14 winning churches whose songs will be featured on the Lighten the Load compilation CD. |

| Winning entries will be announced online in August 2008. The cash prizes will be presented in September and October at CD- launch ceremonies in each participating city. |

| The Lighten the Load Gospel Contest and CD are part of the Be Sickle Smart community education program, which raises awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and Iron Overload. |

| Entries for the 2008 Lighten the Load Inspirational Gospel Music Contest are accepted by invitation only. Each invited church may submit one recording of an inspirational gospel song from any style category, including Traditional, Contemporary, Youth, and Urban/Hip Hop. Each invited church must sign and complete a submission form for the song entry, inclusive of the church contact name, telephone number (required), and e-mail address (requested). |
